efia pearson bio tricycleThe name Efia means "Little Flower" in Swahili. Depending on the dialect, it can also mean "Born on Sunday," which she was, in Tallahassee, Florida, to artistic parents who encouraged her creative interests from the moment she was born. Fingerpainting, sculpting, watercolor, and as soon as she got a little coordination, she was off to dance classes, piano lessons and gymnastics. Throughout her childhood, she incorporated her seedling passion for acting into anything she could - turning school projects into mini-films, orchestrating talent showcases at her birthday parties, and of course, getting her hands on her mother's home video camera whenever she could.

In her senior year of high school, she had her chance to take the stage in the starring role in Gore Vidal's "Visit to a Small Planet." She shocked the school, as most of her fellow students and teachers didn't know she could speak until her debut!

The Florida State University School of Theatre was a magical time for her and the first time she truly had the opportunity to study what she loved. During her four years there, she had the honor of attending workshops with José Quintero, Woodie King, Jr., and Fiona Shaw. She acted in around 17 plays (at the FSU School of Theatre and in the Tallahassee community), 17 student films at the acclaimed FSU Film School (10 of which were all during her senior year), and was a member of 3 student improv comedy groups. Also in her senior year, she won the community theatre's Best Supporting Actress Award for her portrayal of Delia in Pearl Cleage's "Blues for an Alabama Sky."

During this time, Efia also studied abroad in London for a semester, where she got her first taste of Shakespeare. She studied with Celina Cadell and Jos Houben from Paris' Le Coq School. Those were 4 months of delicious sensory overload as she traveled to Scotland, Paris, Barcelona, and Copenhagen and saw many plays.

After University, Efia arrived in Los Angeles, where she soon booked her first commercial for Boston Market. Not long after she played Carly, a young woman reunited with her mother, in the Lifetime series "Strong Medicine." Never one to stand for being told what she cannot do, she went on to land a role on "The Shield," after being told that she would never be able to do so, protraying a Meth addict being held hostage.

After several years of studying with a few diverse schools and coaches, she found her home at the Beverly Hills Playhouse where she currently works with Milton Katselas, Richard Lawson, and Allen Barton.

Since her arrival in Los Angeles, Efia as made 5 television appearances, performed in 4 stage productions, 7 short films, and is very much looking forward to her next project.
